Xtragr8ful needs a chair

I am in desperate need of a power wheelchair!

I have to have my leg amputated and want to get the medical equiptment needs taken care of now.  I am immobile at present but my old wheelchair is not electric and is falling apart from age. I am unable to go anywhere or get out of house.

I need a powerchair to keep up with my 7 and 8 year old grandsons, who I have adopted.  I cannot do anything with them currently and their youth is whisking by quickly.  I have missed so much already.

I am on medicaid which does not pay for power chairs. If you could find someone possibly  donating a chair, I would be extremely grateful(xtragr8ful):) How can I thank you enough for being my angel when I really need one?  Words cannot express my appreciation for this gift of help that you bring at this time in my life. I thank you so much and may God bless you with health, and true happiness!

My family is finally going to be reunited soon, and we will be starting over. My 2 daughters and I have been apart from my fiance, the man on of the house for a very long time. He was in a severe car accident in Jan 09 and has been gone for over a year. He is coming back soon and we will all be under the same roof once again. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. My fiance Reggie has catastrophic injuries from the accident and is going to need full time care. he is pretty much a paraplegic. The state is going to pay me to be his caregiver, but Im also going to have to keep my current job as a waitress. Money is going to be very tight and its all going to be on me, im a little scared. But I do want him to come home, we all miss him so much. I know it's going to be a lot of work but I am ready and willing to do this.

I need help, but I'm willing to help as well.  I'm a single mom - my kids are grown - and now I am suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and myelodysplastic syndrome (a bone marrow cancer).  Both of these are terminal - according to research, the pulmonary fibrosis (NSIP) has a 90% 5 year survival, but that drops to 40% after 5 years; and the MDS (myelodysplaystic syndrome) has a survival of 3-4 years.

I obtained a 'powerchair' last month, and now all I need is a minivan to transport it and my oxygen systems in order to travel and visit my grandkids (last time I saw them was last fall when my daughter came to Detroit from Chicagoland, and the day after she arrived I ended up in the hospital - again (my 5th in 2 months) with pneumonia, so needless to say, we didn't have a lot of time together!

I need this van in order to get around town as well - it's getting harder and harder for me to use the walker - I get short of breath more and more readily...I can walk about 150 feet before I start to 'desat' (o2 level in blood drops), so the use of the powerchair for doing stuff outside of the home would be fantastic.  Yes, they have a bus system, but it's not comprehensive, and does not run all the times I need it to run, or where I want to run to - my docs are in another county, and the system only runs the county I'm in.  Right now, my daughter has to struggle to shove my wheelchair into a 2-door chevy cavalier (if you know how small THAT is, you'll know what I mean!).  Needless to say, I got the cavalier years before i got sick! :)

My REAL dream is next year to drive to IL to visit my grandkids then onto NE to see my mom, whom I haven't seen since 1999.  She, too, is ill, and I'm not certain that either of us would be able to see each other after next year (heck I'm not totally certain I'll be able to travel next year, but i can dream, can't I?).  I need to carry the powerchair, a wheelchair (for places where the powerchair is too big), a walker, two oxygen machine components, and of course, us and luggage.

I've worked for many years as secretary and computer tech, and can still do some computer tech work - including web design, when I have the energy.  I'm not totally looking for a 'free lunch' - I CAN afford payment of $125/month - maybe $150.  I just don't have a big amount of money for downpayment and/or full payment.  Almost 100% of my debt is medical bills, so my credit is crushed

Hi all. I'm fifty years old. I've been divorced about 10 years. I'm a single parent of 2 daughters. The eldest is 21 and about to start college. The youngest is 11, and she has asperger's syndrome, which is on the autism spectrum. Like many, we struggle with poverty and related issues. I have scoliosis that is severe enough to cripple me. I can still walk, but it's with a limp and a lot of pain. There is so much I want and need to do for my family but I always come up short, because of my limitations.

I'll try to state my needs as concisely as possible. My whole family needs dental work. I'm actually missing some front teeth and it would really help me professionally to get those fixed. I really wish I could start some kind of business that would just provide a living wage and let me be a full-time mom. My youngest daughter needs at least one full-time parent, and her dad's not in the picture at all. She has a lot of social problems because of her disorder. Because of that, I have been homeschooling her since 4th grade, and she is now going into 7th. I wish I could afford some sort of private school for her. Public school really put her self esteem on the floor, and I place no faith there. She is extremely intelligent, and I don't feel I'm giving her the education she deserves by homeschooling. It's just the best solution we have for now. When she went to public school, she cried every morning when I dropped her off, and usually came home crying. It was horrible. You wouldn't believe what kids, and even some adults, so-called professionals, will say and do to a kid that is different.

My oldest daughter is an angel. She has practically given up her childhood since her father left us with nothing, just to help me cope with losing our home, extreme poverty, and a little sister with special needs. She is going to college on government grants.

We count our blessings. We are better off than many. I would just like to be able to make a living without sacrificing my home and family. That and health needs I guess are our biggest needs. A wheelchair would really help me keep up physically. I also had lyme disease last year and that adds to my joint problems and foggy mind. I have hypertension and type 2 diabetes, and I cannot afford to go to the doctor to get my meds refilled. I take Metformin and Atenolol, which is cheap at WalMart, but I recently moved and need a new doctor to renew my prescriptions. That's the part I cannot afford.

I make crafts, spa products and candles. I also do computer graphic design and digital photo editing.  I'm only a fair typist, but I also have telemarketing experience. I also have an extensive background in community theatre and was once a freelance writer. Would love a creative job or business.

I would REALLY appreciate it if some patient person would tutor me on how to create a website. My biggest challenge is being able to concentrate and sit for very long without pain. I'm really interested in learning more about adsense. I have all sorts of ideas.

I am a Christian and would very much appreciate prayers, and will offer my prayers for others. I also welcome any and all advice.

About lexi's dog

My name is Alexis Horne and I am on the waiting list for a service dog from WAGS (Wisconsin Academy of Graduate Service Dogs).  I will be getting my dog next year. This dog will help me do things like open doors, pick up things I drop and turn lights off and on. It will make me a more independent person so I don’t always have to ask someone else for help.  I have cerebral palsy and I use a wheelchair to get around.  When I get my dog, I can take it for walks and with me when I go to the store and other places.  Service dogs cost about $12,000 to train from a puppy to placement with a special needs individual.   I have had rummage sales, saved aluminum cans and some other fundraisers as well.  I have made about $2000 so far. I would like to ask for help in coming up with ideas for fundraisers so I could manage to raise the other $2000 I still need to be able to get my service dog.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

About rara

My name is Dianne Williams. I am well traveled, studying with the Oshogbo artists in Nigeria, dialoging with the Africans in South America in the Rain Forest of Surinam, and in 1998, moving to a flower garden in Baja California, Mexico for four years to focus on writing. I usually stand alone, but this time I need help. I pinched together a few bucks and bought 89 Volvo wagon after my beloved Honda broke down. Thinking I would at least be able to get on the road and look for a job to save for a more current car. Well, to my dismay the handcontrals on my Volvo, needs a special part, which will cost nearly $1000. I follow the advice of my creative muse: “Don’t worry about growing old, worry about staying new.” However, it is hard to stay new when you’re a paraplegic without a car. I was pushed off the road six months ago. I feel like my wheelchair has flat tires. It is beginning to affect my mental state. Can you help me travel up the road? Anything will help, even a loan will do! Big Love, Dianne

I'm sitting here at midnight wondering what in the world I can do to help myself and others. My husband and I are both physically disabled and are just barely able to pay our bills. I know everyone else in this country is having the same problem with a few exceptions. Problem is we don't fit into any "category" we make 5 dollars a month too much to receive any state or federalaid and,I don't know if anyone has tried, but charitable organizations just aren't set up for middle class disabled caucasian people. They have charities like meals on wheels for elderly dogs (seriously they do) but to try to find a wheelchair for my husband or some help getting our ramp repaired before someone falls throughit , forget it. I'm glad the doge are eating well. We ourselves have had to cutback on groceries so we only eat what's on sale or buy from the "rotten rack" or day old bread . Thanks for letting me rant

PS I love dogs but feel that there are more serious problems to be dealt with

Mom of 2 disabled children and need help

I think I posted this as a reponse so sorry if you read this twice.  I'm a mother of 3 great kids, two of whom (twins) have disablities.  My twins both are in wheelchairs, althought one can walk for short distances with a walker.  I had to stop working full time as an RN due to all the surgeries (14 combined), and doctors appointment ect.  My husband is a fireman and works odd jobs on his days off to try and make ends meet.  We are in debt due to our situation, but I'm not asking for assitance for that.  The hardest thing for me is the inability to give my children a chance to do things that other kids do.  We need a wheelchair accessible van that will hold two wheelchairs (full size van with a lift), and they cost 50 -60 thousand dollars.  There is no way we can afford to buy that.  I just want to be able to take my kids th the zoo or shopping ect.  Right now they are stuck at home except for going to school or the doctor.  If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful.

Disabled Woman with two children needs immediate financial help

Hi,

My name is Nicole.  I am in a wheelchair with a spinal cord injury which causes me chronic pain and is wose under stress.  I also have two children and am in the process of seperating from my husband.  I am experiencing extreme financial crises.  I live in Monterey, Ca where the cost of living is very high.  My plan is to sell my home (it is my home that I bought with a settlement of money from the car accident that put me in a wheelchair at age 19) and move to Colorado with my two kids, where we can afford to live.  My problem is, my soon to be exhusband is not working and can't pay the bills.  I work as a biofeedback tech and Herbal Specilist but my business is not enough to pay the huge mortgage payment due August 15th, 2007.  I want to keep my house payment current and credit card dept under control so that when I go to Colorado I will have good credit.  Otherwise, if my credit is bad, I won't be able to rent or buy a home.  I'm truely very scared.  My wish is to have two months of mortgage covered and help with credit cards.  My mortgage is $2,400 a month and my credit card debt is about $25,000.  $10,000 would be an ideal amount to help me through these couple of months before I'm able to move.

Any amount of help is appreciated.

Blessings,

Nicole

 *(Updated January 2011)*

Just looking for help for my Mom & yes also for myself. Have tried & tried beyond means to keep working but my medical issues are getting to be such that I can't work anymore. I had fought my doctor wanting to put me on disability for some time, but I'm really tired & sickly. I try keeping busy on occasion with some volunteer work; I've got to get out sometime & do something! I share a place with my Mom for financial reasons, but I'd sure like to be able to help out more. She's on disability herself but also does a bit of volunteer work. I'm not sure what all I can request here but any help would be greatly appreciated! A decent home, furniture, car, etc.

We would love to buy a home, but our credit situation is pretty grim  (medical bills, student loans). As many know, renting gets old real fast. Our greatest wish is to find a nice duplex if at all possible, but a nice home in a decent area certainly would be a blessing. If someone would just give us a chance! We desparately need to move.... We aren't city folks anymore, & just being uncomfortable here is the least of our problems. Our house just isn't safe. Our landlord is like many; not enough time to fix this house, but always wants that rent on time. We are terrified that the large hollow tree across the street is going to fall on our house. Parts of it break off every year, & in Oct. 2009 I was nearly killed when a chunk of it broke off & landed not 10 ft from where I sat on the porch. Ripped my power lines (& a neighbor's) right off my house! We NEED out of this house before one or both of us gets hurt!

Now, I stay online almost constantly searching for grants & any other source of funding I might be eligible for. My credit sucks mostly because of nedical bills (10 surgeries in nearly as many years). But I also made some bad financial decisions with my education & was always so eager for those student loans that I overloaded myself. The loans have been forgiven for now but my credit still stinks of course. For the most part, alot of these places that say they have missing money for you, or can get you a grant, etc... many always want money. And hey, I'd pay the fee to those that checked out but neither of us have the fees to pay! But yet, I still search & will continue to do so. Again, if someone would just give us a chance!

Mobility is also an issue; neither of us can walk very well. We both use a cane but we also each have a walker, rollator &  power chair, however we can only use the power chairs at home, due to not having any way to transport them. I've been on a site called Free Charity Cars, trying to hopefully get a wheelchair-accessible van or most any type of otherwise modified vehicle (car, truck, etc.).

You know, all any of us can do in these times is pray.... Please pray for my Mom & myself, & I will certainly do the same for you--whomever you are. Again, any help is certainly appreciated. I also appreciate just having a place like this to ask & am glad others can ask also. Thank you!

Take care, & God Bless!

NOTE: As of Oct. 21, 2009, my doctor has finally decided 2 put me in a wheelchair. But that's ok tho because I've accepted it & have had enough. I can barely walk, my back & legs have finally betrayed me, & I've been in the most horrible back pain ever  (looking at spinal surgery - again). I was always against being in a wheel chair, because just like all my docs have said, you start 2 lose muscle tone once you get in a chair. There must be exercises... Anyway, I've called the local Disability Network & the ramp prices are outreageous. I did see a nice power wheel chair at a local pawnshop... My caseworker says I should be able 2 get a wheelchair thru Medicare, etc., but it may take some time. I haven't any... That 'time'... I've run out; I need a power chair! My Mom suggested a scooter, which would be great, but I need the back support that a chair offers.

If any1 has any advice, suggestions, comments... Feel free. Even if just 2 chat...

Wheelchair ramp, van and accessible information

Hello,

I am caught in an interesting situation.  I do not qualify for SSI because I get SSDI.  I do not get medicaid because I don't qualify for SSI.  I will not get medicare for another year (2 year waiting period).  My disability was caused by domestic violence, and I can not work.   I was able to obtain a manual wheelchair from a local medical supply company that was going out of business and was giving away their used chairs.  My challenge is that I need a wheelchair ramp built at my home so that I don't have to crawl up the stairs any longer.  I also need a vehicle that can handle my wheelchair better than my VW.   Right now I have to ask people in the parking lot to get my chair out for me and to put it back.  Sometimes I have to wait a long time to get anyone to help.  I am unable to pay all of my bills, let alone the new added expenses that have arose.  I was able to get help with a divorce, so he is totally out of the picture.  If anyone out there can help, or know of someone that can or of a website or information that I can use, I really appreciate the help.   kathy   nothomebychoice@yahoo.com
